The food at Idlewild is based on simplicity, the seasons, and the traditional. Exactly what is traditional may cause some surprises - roast beef, potted shrimp, Lancashire hot-pot, toad-in the-hole, jam roly-poly - all lovely British comfort food.
What about mutton with laverbread, comfrey leaf fritters, payn perdew (1470 recipe), tracklements, scotch woodcock, bloaters…when did you last eat bloaters? It is one of our finest smoked fish, so we hope you will give it a go.
The menu showcases mainly British produce (with a little help from the Rungis market) sourced from smaller, specialist suppliers such as Secretts, for local market garden veg; Devon Rose for moor-reared Aberdeen Angus; and Elwy Valley for Welsh mutton. Fish is caught from the sea, not the pen.
